My biggest ‘take home’ after working as a doctor for almost 20 years is that in majority of cases, all patients and their loved one's need is a gentle touch, a kind word, an ear they can vent out on or a shoulder to cry on!

Be empathetic, it really goes a long way.

COVID-19 Facts

Some basic terms, rules and facts regarding COVID-19

Quarantine

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19: Quarantine. If you have been boosted OR completed the primary series of any vaccine (first two shots) within the last 6 months

  • Wear a mask around others for 10 days.
  • Test on day 5, if possible.
  • If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home.
...If you have completed the primary series of any vaccine (first two shots) over 6 months ago and are not boosted OR Unvaccinated
  • Stay home for 5 days.
  • Wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
  • If you can’t quarantine, you must wear a mask around others for 10 days.
  • Test on day 5 if possible, if negative you can end quarantine.
  • If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home.

Isolation

If you test positive for COVID-19: Isolate, everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Stay home for 5 days.
  • You can leave your home in case of no or fading of symptoms.
  • Wear a mask around others for 5 more days.
  • In case of fever, stay home until your fever resolves.
... If a person in isolation has been fever free since Day 7 or atleast 3 days (without fever medications), then he or she can end Isolation after Day 10, however if the fever lasted till Day 8 or 9, then Isolation needs to end after Day 13. According to latest guidelines even a symptomatic person with fever and cough becomes non-infective (incapable of spreading the virus) after Day 13 and can end isolation.

Retest & Recovery

It is generally not advisable to get retested for at least 2-3 weeks after ending isolation unless it is necessary to produce a negative result to resume work or travel because the PCR can at times detect even the dead virus for up-to 6 weeks from the onset of symptoms. Once a person has ended isolation, it can take months for a complete recovery. A dry cough, ... weakness, fatigue, body aches, loss of smell or taste can sometimes persist for weeks to months.

Re-infection

It is very much possible and is also being reported. Immunity against COVID-19 is not lifelong. However, exactly how long after the first illness can a person get re-infected is not known. It is generally believed that 12 weeks after the onset... of symptoms from the first infection, a person is as susceptible to contracting the illness as those who have never had the disease.

Always, wear a mask, limit your movements, maintain social distancing, practice SOPs when going out and most important of all, refrain from household mixing i.e. people living in one house meeting people living in another house, don’t visit your elderly parents if you don’t live in the same house, you could be exposing them to all that you have been exposed to outside, even if you do, wear a mask and maintain 6-8 feet distance throughout the duration of your visit.

We are in this together, Hence we NEED to beat this together.
